HICKORY - Hickory's "Active. Well Crafted." continues with many activities in September from playing tennis or walking to kids participating in the National Day of Play.
"Active. Well Crafted." is a pilot program that kicked off on January 1, 2013 and continues until December.

Month Long Programs
Participate in at least two social walks
Social Walks led by Hickory and Hickory Parks and Recreation at Highland Recreation Center at Stanford Park on WEDNESDAYS at 9 a.m. Walk is for all ages and athletic abilities. For more information, call Angela Smith at (828) 261 - 2259.
Attend 4 fitness classes during the month at Highland Recreation Center at Stanford Park, 1451 8th Street Drive, NE , any questions call (828) 328-3997 or the Ridgeview Recreation Center at Taft Broome Park, 115 7th Avenue, SW, any questions call (828) 324-8077. Hickory Parks and Recreation Tennis Programs

Do the Unthinkable (5K) and Fun Run (1 mile)
Begins and ends near Frye Regional Medical Center at 8 a.m. Costs to register is $5 for Fun Run and $15 for 5k, for more information or to register go to
Open House FitFest at Hickory Foundation YMCA - 701 1st Street, NW
Activities all day long including a fitness events and health fair. Participants (member or non-member) are asked to bring two can food items per person.

The City of Hickory's Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with The Salvation Army of Hickory presents the National Day of Play. Saturday, September 21 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Kiwanis Park, Zahra Baker All Children's Playground (805 6th Street, SE, Hickory). Music, Games, Arts and Crafts, Contests, Face Painting, and MORE! FREE FAMILY FUN!
"There are numerous Active. Well Crafted. events that have been successful so far this year and we hope more people of all ages will get involved and learn more about the program over the next few months," said City of Hickory Communications Director and Brand Manager Mandy Pitts. "The goal of this pilot program is to recognize those who participate in active events and to focus on the positive programs that keep people moving."
