Cutters End Season On a High
BATAVIA, NY - Williamsport was able to end the 2013 season the way that they started it, with a win on the road, 6-3 over Batavia.
Gustavo Martinez got things started in the top of the 1st inning with a leadoff double, his 6th, to get into scoring position. Martinez would reach 3rd base on a pass ball by catcher Chad Wallach. Sam Dove plated Martinez with a RBI groundout to give the Cutters an early 1-0 lead.
Shane Martin was able to work his way out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 2nd inning to keep the Muckdogs off of the board and the Cutters ahead 1-0.
Dylan Cozens led off the 7th inning with his 2nd triple of the season, followed by a walk by Zach Green. Samuel Hiciano plated Cozens with a fielder's choice to make it 2-0. Chad Carman delivered a RBI single to score Hiciano and make it 3-0. Corey Bass followed with a two-run duble to right center that plated Logan Pierce and Carman to make it 5-0. Gustavo Martinez capped the scoring with a RBI single to right to score Bass and make it 6-0.
Batavia would use a Sam Dove error on a pop up, that allowed Chad Wallach to score from 1st base and make it a 6-1 deficit, to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 8th.
Batavia made it interesting with two runs in the 9th inning against Felix Santos to cut it to a 6-3 deficit.
Cutters starter Shane Martin would work five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits, two walks and striking out four. Manny Martinez replaced Martin in the 6th inning. Martinez worked two scoreless innings of relief, walking one and a striking out one. Keivi Rojas entered in the 8th inning. Rojas allowed one run, unearned, on no hits. Felix Santos worked one inning of relief in which he allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two. Shane Martin would improve to 5-4 on the season with the win.
Batavia starter Jarlin Garcia would allow one run, unearned, in five innings of work. Garcia struck out seven Cutters to tie a season high. Garcia was replaced by Tyler Kinley. Kinley would allow five runs in two innings of relief on five hits. Kinley would be replaced by Jose Adames in the 8th inning. Adames worked a scoreless inning allowing two hits and striking out three. Josh Easley entered in the 9th inning and pitch a perfect frame while picking up a strike out. Jarlin Garcia took the loss to fall to 2-3.
