Trenton, NJ - The Senators jumped out to an early lead, but the Trenton Thunder stormed back with a five-run third inning and coasted to an 8-2 victory in Game 1 of the Eastern League Championship Series at Arm & Hammer Park.
Harrisburg scored single runs in the second and third innings. Justin Bloxom led off the second with a double and later came around to score on a sacrifice-fly by Jerad Head. In the third, Billy Burns walked and a couple batters later, Steven Souza, Jr. also drew a free pass. They executed a double steal and Burns came in on a wild pitch.
Blake Treinen retired the first six hitters he faced for the Senators, but issued two straight walks to open the bottom of the third inning. A pair of base hits followed. Mason Williams delivered an RBI single to score the first two runs of the inning and before Treinen could escape the frame, three more runs came across for the Thunder. They added two more in the fourth and another in the seventh.
Nik Turley tossed six innings and allowed five hits and both Harrisburg runs. The left-hander walked three and struck out 10. Justin Bloxom and Jeff Howell had two hits apiece for the Senators.
On Wednesday, the Senators take on the Thunder in Game 2 of the best-of-five Eastern League Championship Series in Trenton.
