SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Indians announced today that the team hit a record-breaking attendance number in the team's 110-year history by averaging 5,064 fans at each Indians home game, topping the 2007 mark of 5,053.
After a flurry of offseason renovations to Avista Stadium, the Indians opened the 2013 season on June 14th against the Everett AquaSox with 6,181 fans on hand to see the new additions of the Team Store, Ticket Offices and Concession facility.
The Indians had seven sellouts during the 2013 season, including two games that drew over 7,000 fans. Saturday, August 3rd was the season's highest attendance total with 7,048 paid tickets. All in all, the Indians welcomed a total of 187,371 fans into Avista Stadium this summer with 37 openings. The total attendance number was fourth highest in the Indians' Northwest League history, and third highest nationally amongst Short-Season and Rookie league teams this year.
"We're grateful for the support from the community," said Spokane Indians Senior Vice President Otto Klein. "The renovations to Avista Stadium made the fan experience even better, and breaking the attendance record shows we accomplished our goal."
Spokane County and the Spokane Indians, in conjunction with ALSC Architects and Kilgore Construction, worked on the Avista Stadium improvements last offseason. The construction included replacing the main concession building, upgrading the administration building, creating a new team store, updating restrooms, and repaving the entire outer concourse.
Avista Stadium was originally built in three months in 1958 to house a farm team of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since that time, the stadium has remained one of the top ballparks in the country, winning Northwest League Field of the Year nine years straight, and 15 of the last 17 seasons.
The Spokane Indians would like to thank all of our fans for their support this season. The Indians are the Short Season Class "A" affiliate for the Texas Rangers.
