NORWICH, Conn. -- The Connecticut Tigers are proud to announce vice president and assistant general manager Eric Knighton has been named the New York-Penn League Sam Nader Male Executive of the Year for 2013.

This is the second time in three seasons that Knighton has been named the recipient, having previously won the award following the 2011 season. The award is voted upon annually by owners, general managers and personnel from each of the league's 14 member clubs. Knighton will officially receive his award at the 2013 Baseball Winter Meetings this December in Orlando, Florida.

"I am extremely honored to have been selected for this award," Knighton said. "I don't view this as an individual accolade, but as recognition for all the hard work our staff put in this season. Hosting the All-Star Game this summer gave the fans and the entire league a chance to see the progress we've made and all the positive things happening at Dodd Stadium. The New York-Penn League is full of quality operators, and to have been chosen by this group of peers makes it all the more humbling to receive this award."

Knighton was a driving force behind a record-breaking 2013 season for the Connecticut Tigers. This included franchise records in total attendance, average attendance and single-game attendance. In addition, the organization hosted the ninth annual New York-Penn League All-Star Game for the first time in franchise history on Tuesday Aug. 13, of which Knighton was one of the main contributors in securing, planning and executing.

"Eric is one of the most hard-working and knowledgeable people that I've had the pleasure of working alongside," said Tigers vice president and general manager C.J. Knudsen. "This award is a testament to his work ethic and could not be more well-deserved. We as an organization are extremely proud of him. To win an award voted on by your peers twice in a three-year span is an outstanding accomplishment."

The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play a 76-game (38 home, 38 away) schedule that runs from mid June through early September. Season tickets for 2014 are now on sale! The front office and ticket office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be accessed in person or by calling 860-887-7962.
