The Frederick Keys, Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, have released their schedule for the 2014 season. The Keys begin their 26th season in the Carolina League on the road before opening their home slate against Carolina on Tuesday, April 8.
After opening with a three-game series at Lynchburg that begins Thursday, April 3, Frederick kicks off its season at Harry Grove Stadium with a seven-game homestand. The Keys will host the Mudcats, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, in a three-game set before welcoming Atlanta Braves affiliate Lynchburg to Frederick for four games beginning on Friday, April 11.
Following Frederick's April 11 home opener will be the first of more than 20 postgame firework shows at Harry Grove Stadium. Fireworks will follow all night games on the weekends, weather permitting.
Frederick is coming off the 2013 season in which it led the Carolina League in attendance and Orioles prospects Eduardo Rodriguez, Michael Ohlman, Tim Berry, Zach Davies, Christian Walker and Dariel Alvarez dazzled crowds at The Grove with impressive individual seasons.
With the exception of five day games and one 6 p.m. start, Monday through Friday games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts. Saturday games will start at 2 p.m. in April and at 6 p.m. for the rest of the season. Sunday games begin at 2 p.m. until late June, when Frederick hosts its first 6 p.m. Sunday tilt on June 22. In July, the Keys will hold two 4 p.m. Sunday games and another at 6 p.m. before returning to 2 p.m. Sunday starts in August. The Keys final Sunday game, August 31, will begin at 6 p.m.
The Keys' will host afternoon games on Mother's Day (May 11), Father's Day (June 15) and Labor Day (Sept. 1), Frederick's season finale. Frederick will also celebrate America's Independence a day before the nation's birthday when the Keys host Boston Red Sox affiliate Salem at 6 p.m. on July 3. The Keys will hold three 11 a.m. games on weekdays in April and May and start at noon on Thursday, June 26.
