KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Nov. 19, 2013) - Chicago White Sox prospect Micah Johnson, who spent the majority of his first full season of professional baseball with the Kannapolis Intimidators, was named to the Topps Class A® All-Star Team today, according to Minor League Baseball and the Topps Company. Johnson split the 2013 season between Class A Kannapolis and Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem before joining Double-A Birmingham for the playoffs and eventually helping the Barons to the Southern League Championship.
Johnson, 23, led the Minor Leagues with 83 stolen bases, swiping 61 bags in 77 games for the Intimidators before earning a promotion to the Winston-Salem Dash on July 3. The second baseman hit .315 this season, including a .342 (104-304) average in the South Atlantic League with Kannapolis. In 126 Class A games between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, the speedster ranked third in runs (104), fourth in triples (15) and fifth in hits (162). The White Sox selected Johnson in the ninth round of the June 2012 draft out of Indiana. He was named a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star, South Atlantic League Annual All-Star, MVP of the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, and MVP of the Southern League Championship Series.
The South Atlantic League placed six players on the Topps Class A All-Star Team, including Johnson. Former Intimidators first baseman Dan Black (2011) was named to the Topps Double-A All-Star Team after hitting .290 with 17 home runs and 83 RBI with the Barons.
