Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes will be getting a new skipper for the 2014 season, as the Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized their minor league coaching staffs for all their minor league affiliates.
Former major leaguer P.J. Forbes will become the third different manager for the Quakes over the last three seasons, as he takes over for last year's field general, Carlos Subero, who took a managerial position in the Milwaukee system.
Forbes, 46, managed the Arizona League Dodgers in 2013, leading the Arizona Rookie League club to a 34-22 record in the regular season and finishing one win away from the Arizona League Pennant.
The former Pittsburg, Kansas native was an infielder in his playing career, collecting three hits over 12 total big league games, appearing with both the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies.
Forbes was drafted by the California Angels in the 20th round of the 1990 draft and spent a season in the Cal League back in 1991, appearing in 94 games for the Palm Spring Angels.
"We're excited to welcome P.J. to LoanMart Field here in Rancho Cucamonga," said Vice President/General Manager Grant Riddle. "The Dodgers speak highly of P.J. and we're hopeful that he can lead us back to the Cal League playoffs for a second straight year."
Joining Forbes will be pitching coach Matt Herges, who returns to the club for his third consecutive season in Rancho and fourth year overall in the Dodgers' system.
Former Quake Mike Eylward will return to the Quakes 11 years after playing for the club, as he'll enter his first year as hitting coach in Rancho. Eylward, who appeared in 109 games for Rancho back in 2003, batted .290 with 13 home runs and 61 driven in. The former Angel farmhand was the hitting coach for the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League last year, his first as a Dodger.
