The column is a little late today. I had a few things to take care of this morning. Those things had a little something to do with what is typically my first column of the New Year: Goals and Improvements
The broadcasting part of the goals and improvements arrived over the weekend. It is pictured in the photo at the top of this column. The item between the schedule and the box is a digital recorder. It has been added to my arsenal - only about ten years after they started being used by broadcasters.
I am not what you would call an early adopter.
There are a few reasons for this much delayed tech upgrade. The main motive was to improve my coverage of the Timber Rattlers. I have been bouncing a few ideas around since the 2013 season ended on how this could be accomplished. I want to do some postgame interviews with players and coaches to add quotes to the postgame stories for the website. The use of a digital recorder will allow me to add those interviews to the blog as a podcast.
Think of the postgame post for the 2014 season as a postgame show for the radio postgame show.
There is also the possibility of other features, interviews, and podcasts to go on the blog during the season. Look for the debut of some of these interviews during my trip to Arizona for Spring Training.
drive traffic to the blog. Rattler Radio finished #5 for 2013 in the MiLB Pro category. I'm coming for your Winston-Salem and Jonathan Mayo! entertain and inform Timber Rattlers fans and those who follow Brewers prospects.
I also had to take the first step in a personal goal this morning. That would be registering for the Brewers Mini-Marathon. Crazy? I know. But, so was the whole growing a mustache thing and you can see how well that's worked out for me.
Let's just say that this is a way to make sure I at least make an attempt to stay in shape during the baseball season. I've got a lot of excuses as to why I start to look like Jerry Blackwell by the end of each season. Having this out there to occur on September 20, 2014 is a reason to stay away from the All-You-Can-Eat buffets on the road trips during those road trips.
It would be a bit embarrassing to have all this time to train and not finish the race.
Plus, it's for charity.
