For the first time in its history, BB&T Ballpark will play host to a Division I college baseball game on Wednesday, March 5, when Appalachian State University squares off with Campbell University. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
BB&T Ballpark is the home for Winston-Salem State University's baseball program. The Rams, who practice and play all of their home games at BB&T Ballpark, compete at the Division II level. Wake Forest University's baseball program has practiced at the facility before. However, this will be a first for BB&T Ballpark, which is in its fifth year of existence.
"We are always looking to hold unique events for our community at BB&T Ballpark," Dash team President Geoff Lassiter said. "Appalachian State and Campbell should deliver a great game for all of our fans here in Winston-Salem. Plus, we cannot wait to provide the student athletes at both universities with the opportunity to play in one of Minor League Baseball's premier facilities."
Tickets are $10 per person, with children under the age of three receiving free admission. Fans can secure their tickets in advance by calling the Appalachian State athletic department at (828) 262-2079 or visiting appstatesports.com/tickets. Tickets will also be available at the Dash's Box Office on the day of the game.
Open seating will be in effect, which means that each ticket will not have a specified seat location. Fans will be able to choose their seats in the lower bowl once they pass through the gates.
The Mountaineers have opened up the season with four consecutive games against teams from the Southeastern Conference and have dropped those four games. ASU will play a power-conference team in each of its first eight games. Campbell currently sits at 3-1, which includes a season-opening sweep over La Salle.
The 2014 Winston-Salem Dash season will begin at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. against the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Kansas City Royals). Single-game tickets and partial-season packages are available now by calling the Dash at (336) 717-2287.
