Williams named new Cutters Manager

February 24, 2014

The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that Shawn Williams will now manage the Williamsport Crosscutters, the Phillies short-season class A affiliate, in 2014.

Williams replaces Nelson Prada who managed the Cutters in 2013 and was previously named to lead the squad again this season. Prada will now manage the Clearwater Threshers (Class A) for the Phillies, replacing Ramon Henderson who stepped down for personal reasons.

Williams, son of former Phillies coach and MLB manager Jimy Williams, spent the 2013 season as a coach with Williamsport and was originally scheduled to be the Cutters hitting coach in 2014.

"I'm excited about returning to Williamsport and starting my managing career in a town that has such a long baseball history and great fans", said Williams, who spent 7 seasons playing professionally prior to beginning his coaching career, including the 2007 season in the New York-Penn League with Hudson Valley.

Joining Williams in the dugout will be pitching coach Aaron Fultz. Fultz spent two years (2005-06) on the Phillies' pitching staff and played on the National League champion San Francisco Giants in 2002.   He has a career record of 25-15 with a 4.26 ERA in 463 major league appearances. He was the Crosscutters pitching coach in 2012 and served as the pitching coach with the Lakewood BlueClaws (A) in 2013.

The Phillies are expected to name a new Williamsport hitting coach in the coming weeks.

The Cutters 2014 season opens on Friday, June 13 as Williamsport hosts the State College Spikes. Season tickets and Bonus Book mini-plans are now available by phone, online at crosscutters.com or in-person at Historic Bowman Field.
