Red Sox's Bogaerts posts two-hit night

Xander Bogaerts didn't make it safely to his destination while trying to stretch a second-inning single into a double on Wednesday night. He made up for it in his second trip to the plate.

MLB.com's No. 2 overall prospect laced an RBI single in the fourth inning to get the Red Sox on the board first, but the Pirates rallied for a 4-2 Grapefruit League win at JetBlue Park.

Bogaerts posted just his second multi-hit game of the game but is 3-for-8 over his last three contests to get his average up to .194. In his fourth-inning at-bat, the shortstop drove an offering from Wandy Rodriguez to right field to plate Dustin Pedroia.

Tony Sanchez, the Pirates' 14th-ranked prospect snapped an eighth-inning deadlock with a run-scoring single. Battling for a spot on the Opening Day roster, Brandon Cumpton earned the win after allowing a run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings of relief.

Blasting Baez: For the second night in a row, Cubs top prospect Javier Baez flexed his muscle with a mammoth home run. On Wednesday, MLB.com's No. 6 overall prospect launched a 452-foot blast for his fifth spring homer in a 9-6 loss to the Rockies. Baez, who later collided with left fielder Anthony Giansanti, has hits in four straight games and is batting .308.

Two-hit day for Lindor: There weren't many bright spots for the Indians in their 13-3 loss to the A's, but top prospect Francisco Lindor turned in a 2-for-4 afternoon. The 20-year-old shortstop doubled and scored in the third, then singled in a run an inning later. He's batting .316 this spring.

Early Games

With most of the game's top prospects already making their way over to Minor League camps and only four early-afternoon games on the docket, Wednesday's Grapefruit League action was light on prospects. Still, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that a pair of Cardinals youngsters stood out from the limited crowd.

Randal Grichuk stroked an RBI double in his only plate appearance, and Stephen Piscotty continued his strong spring with a 1-for-2 showing. He also walked and scored on Grichuk's extra-base hit in the Cardinals' 3-1 win over the Twins.

Piscotty, who also showed off some good range in left field, bumped his spring average up to .357. MLB.com's No. 98 prospect has been particularly hot lately, going 5-for-13 with five runs scored in his last seven games.

Acquired in the deal that brought Peter Bourjos to St. Louis and sent David Freese to Los Angeles, Grichuk has also been impressive of late. In his last six contests, St. Louis' No. 12 prospect is 6-for-14 with four doubles, bumping up his spring average from .176 before the run to .290 following Wednesday's showing.

At the other end of the spectrum, second-base prospect Kolten Wong went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, ending his run of five straight games with a hit (four of which included two or more hits).
