FREDERICK, Md. - When the Keys play their home opener on Tuesday, April 8 at 7 p.m., fans will have an opportunity to purchase mystery balls signed by members of the Frederick Keys, Baltimore Orioles and other sports stars. Each baseball costs $10, and all proceeds go to the Joel A. Stephens Memorial Fund, also known as Frederick Keys Care.
Established in 1999, Frederick Keys Care benefits nonprofit organizations which provide direct services to Frederick County youth and young adults. In the past, Keys Care has provided grants to our local Boys and Girls Club, Frederick National Little League, City of Frederick Housing Authority Leadership Development Program and the Frederick-based Buddy Program. The fund was created in honor of former Baltimore Orioles minor league player, Joel Stephens, who died in 1998 at age 22.
This year, over 70 baseballs are available for purchase and have been signed by different players and teams across MLB, NBA, NHL, and MILB. Those who have signed baseballs include: Matt Wieters, Nick Markakis, Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Dylan Bundy, Kevin Gausman, Dwight Gooden, Mookie Wilson, Frank Thomas and Dan Duquette. Multiple team baseballs are in the mix as well, and include several signed by this year's Frederick Keys.
Baseballs will be available while supplies last and can be purchased on the concourse. Fans can buy as many mystery balls as they like. For those interested in trading, there will be a swaping area located in the courtyard.
Opening Day 2014 for the Frederick Keys is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, when the Carolina Mudcats visit Harry Grove Stadium at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, please call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
