PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of April 3rd through April 13th.

Portland Sea Dogs second baseman Mookie Betts has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of April 3rd-April 13th. The 21-year old hit .457 (16-for-35) with five doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 runs scored, four RBI, four stolen bases and a .743 slugging percentage in his first nine games for the Sea Dogs this season. Mookie, who is a native of Brentwood, Tennessee, kicked off his season by going 4-for-4 with a homer and three runs scored in a 5-0 win at Reading on Opening Night. He went on to reach base in each of the nine games he has played in and collected multiple hits in five of those games. The 5'9", 156 lb. slugger currently leads the Eastern League in batting average (.457) and on-base percentage (.512). He is also ranked among the leaders in total bases (26-tied 1st), runs scored (11-2nd), OPS (1.255-2nd), hits (16-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (7-tied 2nd), doubles (5-tied 2nd), slugging percentage (.743), triples (1-tied 3rd), and stolen bases (4-tied 3rd). Mookie, who entered the season rated by Baseball America as the seventh best prospect in the Red Sox organization, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2011 draft out of John Overton High School in Nashville, Tennessee.

Henry Owens, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 3rd-April 13th. The 6'6", 205 lb. hurler has started a pair of games for the Sea Dogs this season and has a record of 2-0 with 18 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Owens, who is a native of Huntington Beach, California, got his season started off on the right foot, firing a rain-shortened no-hitter in a 5-0 win at Reading on Opening Night. After giving up a pair of first inning walks he retired the final 16 batters he faced and finished with nine strikeouts over six innings. Henry made his second start of the season last Wednesday at Trenton and pitched 6.2 shutout innings in Portland's 9-2 victory. He scattered six hits and struck out nine batters without issuing a walk. The 21-year old currently leads all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts (18) and is tied for the league lead in wins (2) and ERA (0.00). He is also among the leaders in WHIP (0.63-2nd) and batting average against (.140-2nd). Henry, who entered the season rated by Baseball America as the second best prospect in the Red Sox organization, was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the 36th overall pick in the first round of the 2011 draft out of Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California.
