GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Midwest League has announced Wisconsin Timber Rattlers catcher Clint Coulter as the league's first player of the week in 2014. Coulter, a first round draft choice of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2012, hit four homers and drove in twelve runs in his first nine games this season to earn the honor.
Coulter was 8-for-28 with seven walks, three doubles and four home runs since Opening Night to accumulate an average of .286, an on base percentage of .459, and a slugging percentage of .821. Coulter also scored seven runs and stole a base to open the season.
The catcher hit Wisconsin's first grand slam of the season on April 12 at South Bend and followed that up with a two-homer, four RBI game on April 13 to help Wisconsin take two of three games from the Silver Hawks and conclude a six-game road trip with a 4-2 record.
"It comes in waves," Coulter told MiLB.com's Tyler Maun after Sunday's game in South Bend. "The pitcher's got to throw home runs. Hitters don't necessarily hit them. I've gotten some good pitches and haven't missed them. I think in the past, I've gotten pitches like that, but I've missed them or mis-hit them at least. I've been putting good swings on them and maybe gotten a little bit of luck too."
Wisconsin was to open a series with the Lansing Lugnuts at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium tonight, but that game was postponed by snow. The teams will try to play a single game on Tuesday and a doubleheader on Wednesday. The homestand is scheduled to conclude with three games against the Great Lakes Loons with single games from Thursday, April 17 through Saturday, April 19.
Tickets are available for all of the games on this homestand.
