The High Desert Mavericks and the Lancaster Jethawks traded the lead four times before the Mavericks finally scored last in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 11-10 over the Jethawks. Tyler Smith scored the winning run after a wild pitch from Jamaine Cotton.
The two teams came into the day tied for first in the California League South Division. The Mavericks outscored Lancaster 60-58 on the season going into the game, but the Jethawks had a ERA of 2.82 to the High Desert's 3.26.
Even with the high final score, both teams struggle to cash in on baserunners. Lancaster left 11 runners on base and the Mavericks left seven. Mavericks' center fielder Aaron Barbosa went three for four with two runs and a walk. Tyler Smith went two for three, scoring and walking twice. First baseman Patrick Kivlehan also had a stand out game, batting three for four with walk and couple of both runs and RBIs. Gabriel Guerrero went three for four with two runs and three RBIs.
The Mavericks continue to look good this year at the plate and now lead the South Division of the California League. Tomorrow they face Lancaster again at home with a first pitch schedule for 7:05 p.m.
