Myrtle Beach, SC-The Potomac Nationals (6-5, 2-2) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (7-4, 0-4) were suspended due to excessive rainfall in their series opener at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark with the P-Nats leading 4-3 headed into the 3rd inning of play.
Series Game One will be made up tomorrow at 6:05pm and then a backend ballgame will be seven innings in length to complete the makeshift doubleheader.
Myrtle Beach RHP Cody Buckel stands as the losing pitcher of record after allowing four earned runs on three base hits in 1.2 innings while walking four.
Potomac RHP Ronald Pena pitched 2.0 frames and surrendered three earned runs on five hits with one walk and no strikeouts to his line.
The Nationals used a bases loaded hit by pitch of C Pedro Severino to grab a 1-0 lead in the 2nd stanza. That errant offering allowed DH Kevin Keyes to score after he led off the frame with a ground-rule double blasted to the gap in right center field that hopped off the warning track and over the wall. SS Stephen Perez added a two-run double swept up the first base line before 2B Khayyan Norfork punched an RBI single the other way into right field to give Potomac a 4-0 edge.
Off Pena, the Pelicans struck back for three runs in the home half of the 2nd. RF Royce Bollinger cranked a two-run home run out to left field, his first of the season that brought home SS Hanser Alberto, who reached on a bunt single up the third base line. CF Chris Garia laced a run-scoring triple into the right field corner which summoned home the one-base knock of LF Odubel Herrera.
With the score at 4-3 in favor of the Nationals, immediately following the end of the 2nd inning, Home Plate Umpire Ben Levin put the contest into a rain delay which began at about 8:05pm.
After a delay of roughly one hour and ten minutes, Levin signaled that the game was officially suspended and Myrtle Beach officials confirmed it would be made up as part of a completed game tomorrow at 6:05pm followed by a seven-inning contest representing series Game Two.
The Potomac Nationals Baseball Network, which is accessible at www.potomacnationals.com, will feature the live broadcast of both contests scheduled for tomorrow beginning with the P-Nats Leadoff Show at 5:50pm on Wednesday night.
The piggybacking pitchers for both Potomac and Myrtle Beach for the completion of Game One have not yet been announced.
