Beloit Drops Both Games in Doubleheader
04/15/2014 11:35 PM ET

BELOIT, WI- The Beloit Snappers dropped both games of a doubleheader that was played on Tuesday night against the Great Lakes Loons, the Midwest League affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two teams played a double header because Monday night's game was postponed due to inclement weather.

It was a very cold night in Beloit, Wisconsin and the Snappers play was just as cold with numerous errors, allowing lots of stolen bases, runs, and the lack of runs being driven in. The Snappers lost the first game, which was 7 innings, by a score of 11-4. Starting pitcher, Bobby Wahl, walked 5 Loons in the first two innings. The Great Lakes Loons tied a franchise record of 6 stolen bases in a single game, which they tied in the second inning.

Beloit led at one point, when they pulled ahead in the bottom of the 1st inning, 2-1, when they scored on a double by Tyler Marincov and a passed ball by Kyle Farmer to score BJ Boyd. However, after that it was all downhill when Great Lakes scored four runs in the top of the second inning and then scored 3 runs in the fourth. The Loons homered 3 times in the first game of the double header with help from Justin Chigbogu, Paul Hoenecke, and Alex Santana. The Snappers just couldn't climb out of the huge hole that they dug themselves into and lost the first game 11-4 while leaving 5 guys on base. Bobby Wahl gets the loss and goes to 0-2 on the season and ended the night with a 7.71 ERA.

The Snappers struggled even more in the second game of the double header, losing 8-2. Brent Powers got the start for Beloit and got the loss. He goes to 1-1 on the season and finished the night with a 3.52 ERA. Zachary Bird got the start for the Loons and pitched the entire seven inning game. He almost had a shutout before Ryan Mathews hit his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Snappers made a total of 5 errors in the second game. They also used a total of 5 pitchers including Sam Roberts, who is normally a utility infielder but has pitched 4 times before in the minors. Besides Mathews' 2 run bomb the bats for Beloit were pretty stagnant.

The Loons go to 7-5 on the season while the Snappers drop to 4-8. Both teams will be back at it tomorrow at 6:30pm at Pohlman Field in Beloit while the Snappers try not to get swept. Lout Trivino (0-2, 5.63 ERA) will get the start for Beloit. He will face James Campbell (0-1, 6.00 ERA). Get your tickets at the Snappers front office or at www.snappersbaseball.com.
