The SeaWolves exploded offensively on Thursday afternoon as they used the long ball, taking down the Bowie Baysox 9-5 at Prince George's Stadium.
The Baysox got on the board in the last of the third against Erie starter Wilsen Palacios. Zane Chavez led off with a single and moved to second on a one out Buck Britton single. Niuman Romero doubled home Chavez for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth against Bowie starter Jake Pettit. Brandon Loy led off with a single and Engenio Suarez clubbed a two-run home run, his fourth, making it 2-1 Erie.
Bowie quickly tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Dariel Alvarez solo home run to right.
In the top of the fifth, Francisco Martinez and Craig Albernaz each singled to put runners on the corners for Jamie Johnson. Johnson singled through the left side, plating Martinez for a 3-2 lead. Loy walked to load the bases for Suarez. Suarez hammered a grand slam over the wall in left for his second home run of the game, giving Erie a 7-2 lead. It was the second multi-homer game for Suarez and it was the second grand slam hit by the 'Wolves in consecutive games.
In the bottom of the fifth, Johnny Ruettiger led off with a single and he scored on a Britton double making it 7-3. The Baysox loaded the bases on Palacions and the 'Wolves turned to the bullpen. Ryan Robowski induced an inning-ending groundout to hold off the Bowie threat.
In the seventh, the Baysox added a pair of runs making it a two-run game at 7-5. They loaded the bases on Chad Smith but the Erie reliever was able to get out of the jam.
In the top of the ninth, Johnson led off with a walk and was bunted over to second by Loy. Johnson stole third and on a throwing error by catcher Michael Ohlman, scored making it 8-5. With two outs, Aaron Westlake blasted a solo home run, his fourth, making it 9-5.
Jose Valdez worked a scoreless ninth preserving the win.
Robowski (1-0) earned the win allowing a run on two hits with no walk and a strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief.
