Viera, FL - The Daytona Cubs came from behind twice in a 6-3 victory over the Brevard County Manatees on Friday at Space Coast Stadium, securing their fifth win in their last six games.
1B Dan Vogelbach, who went 4-for-4 on Thursday with a home run, started the game 3-for-3 with a walk and the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning that put Daytona on-top for good. Vogelbach, who raised his batting average from .159 to .236 over his 7-for-7 stretch, flied out to the warning track in right-center in his final plate appearance.
Cubs catcher Chadd Krist went 2-for-5 with a double, a run, and the game-tying single in the fourth that knotted the game at 2-2.
RHP Felix Pena had allowed only a single run in each of his first four starts of the season, but struggled with his command out of the gate. Pena walked three in the first inning, but only one came around to score, which came via a passed ball. Pena was removed from the game due to apparent discomfort after facing a batter in the fourth inning.
RHP Starling Peralta (W, 1-0) was called on for Pena, and tossed four innings. Peralta allowed a run in the fifth inning on back-to-back doubles to start the frame, but only allowed the lone run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
RHP Zach Cates (S, 1) closed the game with two perfect innings.
SS Marco Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and also extended his hitting streak to seven-straight games.
RF Bijan Rademacher, who had Thursday off, needed a hit in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games in-a-row, and delivered a huge insurance run with a solo home run to right on a two-strike pitch.
With 12 more hits on Friday, the Cubs upped their team batting average to .264 to leapfrog Charlotte for fourth in the FSL in hitting.
The Cubs and Manatees will shift the series back to Daytona Beach for two on Saturday and Sunday. The Cubs will send RHP Jose Rosario (1-2, 5.19) to the hill, and the Manatees are scheduled to start RHP Damien Magnifico (1-1, 3.93). First pitch on Saturday is slated for 7:05 p.m. with postgame fireworks to follow.
