Southpaw Mike Montgomery went 8 1/3 innings of no-hit ball, starting the combined no-hitter completed by Brad Boxberger

DURHAM, NC - Behind a combined effort from LHP Mike Montgomery and RHP Brad Boxberger, the Durham Bulls no-hit the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in a 5-0 win Saturday evening at the DBAP in the opener of a four-game set.

In front of 10,011 fans, Montgomery (3-0) allowed just a second-inning walk, while striking out nine in a career-long 8 1/3 frames of work without allowing a hit, exiting after tossing 106 pitches. From there Boxberger came in and registered the contest's final two outs via a ground out and a swinging strikeout, giving the Bulls their second combined no-hitter in as many seasons. On May 5, 2013, Jake Odorizzi, Frank De Los Santos, Kirby Yates, and Jeff Beliveau combined to no-hit the Pawtucket Red Sox in Rhode Island in a 2-1 win.

Durham (16-8) jumped on the board in the first inning as Vince Belnome singled before Wilson Betemit and Jerry Sands worked back-to-back walks. Cole Figueroa then reached on a slow roller that scored Belnome, while the throw to first was errant allowing Betemit to score all the way from second base for a 2-0 lead.

Belnome added a run all by himself in the third inning, crushing a lead off dinger over the center field wall for a 3-0 advantage. The Bulls scored the contest's final runs in the fifth frame, as Belnome, Sands and Figueroa all tallied a double in the frame to score a pair. Belnome and Figueroa each finished 3-for-4, while Belnome scored three times.

Right-hander Caleb Cotham (0-2) took the loss for the RailRiders (10-11), allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in four innings.

The teams continue their four-game set Sunday when RHP Merrill Kelly (4-0, 1.50) takes the mound for Durham against RHP Brian Gordon (1-1, 2.57). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.

BULL-et Points: The no-hitter was the third no-hitter the Bulls have recorded since joining the Triple-A ranks in 1998… Belnome's three hits were a season-high, and more than he had registered over his last 24 at bats entering the game… The Bulls snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.
