Daytona Beach, FL - The Cubs completed a four-game sweep of the Brevard County Manatees with a 2-1 walk-off win on Sunday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
After 3B Jeimer Candelario doubled with two outs in the ninth, C Willson Contreras grounded a ball up the middle to score Candelario, and give the Cubs their seventh win over their last eight games.
Daytona scored its only other run in the fourth inning. 1B Dan Vogelbach led off the frame with a walk and stole his first base of the season. With one out, Candelario singled to left which plated Vogelbach to put the Cubs up 1-0.
Brevard County countered in the fifth with a run to tie the game at 1-1, but, like he did all night, Cubs starter RHP Tayler Scott stranded a runner at third.
Scott's biggest escaped jam came in the third after 1B Mike Garza led off with a triple. But after a strikeout, DH Nathan Orf grounded a ball to third. Garza was headed home on contact, and Candelario's throw beat Garza in plenty of time for the second out. Scott induced a fly out to end the frame.
In total, Scott worked six innings and allowed the lone run on four hits, with three walks and a season-high four strikeouts.
RHP Michel Jensen (W, 1-0) relieved Scott in the seventh and worked three scoreless innings, earning his first win as a Daytona Cubs pitcher. Jensen allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Cubs 2B Gioskar Amaya continued his offensive success with a 3-for-4 night, raising his season average to .487 (19-for-39).
RF Bijan Rademacher extended his team-high hitting streak to 11-straight games with a single in the seventh.
Candelario finished 2-for-2 with two walks and the run and RBI.
With the win, Daytona improved to 9-14 on the season and 5-3 against Brevard County.
The Cubs will travel to Lakeland to begin a three-game series on Monday at Joker Marchant Stadium. First pitch between the two clubs is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
