ALLENTOWN, PA - The final game of the second IronPigs homestand was shortened by rain on Tuesday morning, with the Pigs falling 8-0 to the Pawtucket Red Sox in five innings.
A seven-run second inning and a nice start by PawSox right-hander Anthony Ranaudo contributed to the Pigs loss on the second Education Day of 2014 in Coca-Cola Park. The seven-run inning came off of Lehigh Valley starter RHP Barry Enright and included a two-out grand slam by OF Bryce Brentz. The Pawtucket outfielder's grand slam brought his RBI total to 9 in the series and 12 in eight games against the Pigs this season.
RHP Brand Lincoln took over for Enright to begin the third inning, allowing one unearned run in two innings pitched with four strikeouts. RHP Phillippe Aumont would then come on to pitch a near-perfect fifth inning, striking out three and allowing one walk and no hits.
Pawtucket pitcher RHP Anthony Ranaudo looked sharp early in this one, allowing only two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched. Both hits came consecutively in the fourth inning when 1B Jim Murphy and 2B Reid Brignac hit back-to-back singles for the Pigs. Murphy's single increased his hitting streak to nine games, despite the rain-shortened game allowing only two at bats for the first baseman.
Lehigh Valley will get their first scheduled day off on Wednesday, before traveling for an eight-game road trip. The Pigs open up in Gwinnett on Thursday for four games against the Braves before heading to the new BB&T Ballpark in downtown Charlotte to take on the Knights.
