HAGERSTOWN M.D. - When the Hagerstown Suns (20-7) take the field this evening for the third game of a four-game series against the Lexington Legends (12-17), Wilson Ramos (the Nationals starting catcher who is currently on the disabled list) will be in the starting lineup. This will be Ramos' first rehab start in a minor league game since going on the DL April 1 with a broken hamate bone.
Ramos is a career .269 hitter who is in his fifth season with the Nationals. He was acquired by Washington on July 29, 2010 along with LHP Joe Testa from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for RHP Matt Capps. Last year Ramos hit .272 in 78 games with the Nationals. He belted 16 homers in 2013 to set a club record for most homeruns in franchise history in a single season by a catcher.
Tonight will be Ramos' first time wearing a Suns uniform and his first time playing in the South Atlantic League. His last minor league game came in 2013 with class-A+ Potomac during another stint on the DL. Ramos also suited up in rehab games last year for the rookie level GCL Nationals and class-AA Harrisburg.
All fans coming to Municipal Stadium this evening will enjoy Sunday Fun Day presented by Dr. Kevin L. Curlis Podiatry. As part of Sunday Fun Day all children 12-and-under are invited to play catch on the field prior to the game, as well as run the bases following the game.
