KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 4, 2014) - Tyler Danish spun 6.0 scoreless innings for a second straight start, pitching the Kannapolis Intimidators past the Hickory Crawdads, 3-1, on Sunday evening at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, snapping the team's four-game losing skid.
Danish (3-0) limited Hickory to one hit over 6.0 innings, allowing two walks while striking out five on the way to his third win in six starts for Kannapolis (15-15). The White Sox 2nd round pick last June opened with four perfect innings before surrendering a leadoff walk in the fifth inning. Two batters later, Travis Demeritte's single broke up Danish's bid for a no-hitter.
Dylan Chavez tossed 2.0 scoreless relief innings, and David Putman bent but didn't break in the ninth to secure the save (1).
Kannapolis struck in the first inning. Cleuluis Rondon singled and stole second base, setting up Trey Michalczewski for an RBI-single and an early 1-0 lead.
After the Intimidators came up empty-handed with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning, they pushed a pair of runs across the plate in the fifth. Danny Hayes and Michalczewski drew a pair of 1-out walks. Carl Thomore followed with an RBI-double, and Omar Narvaez's sac-fly made it 3-0.
Hickory (14-14) threatened in the ninth inning when Kevin Torres's 2-out double scored Ronald Guzman from first base, bringing the tying run to the plate, but Putman induced a Nick Vickerson groundout to end the game.
Crawdads starter Cole Wiper (1-4) took the loss, allowing a run on seven hits over 3 and 2/3 innings. The Intimidators added two runs off Ricardo Rodriguez during his 3 and 1/3 relief innings.
The Intimidators play for a series split with the Crawdads on Monday at 7:05 p.m. Every Monday this season is Belly Buster Night, featuring All-You-Can-Eat for only $10 (excludes drinks, candy, 3rd party concessions).
