Rhymes Double Sends Syracuse Past Bulls, 3-2
Ex-Bulls, Rays IF Foils Former Club

Syracuse, NY --- Will Rhymes doubled in the tying and leading runs in the seventh inning to defeat his former team, sending Syracuse past Durham 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Rhymes, who played for the Bulls (20-13) and Tampa Bay in 2012, guided the first pitch he saw from reliever Juan Sandoval (L, 0-1) inside the left field line to turn a 2-1 deficit into a one run lead for the Chiefs (16-15).

Former major league closer Mike Gonzalez recorded the final four outs to earn the save for the Chiefs, who beat the Bulls for the second straight night.

Nathan Karns pitched well in defeat, working six innings allowing just one run. Karns was optioned to Durham after a one-day stint with the Rays on Sunday. Karns fanned three, walked four and permitted five hits over his 100-pitch outing.

Wilson Betemit launched his seventh home run of the season in the second inning to put Durham in front 1-0. All sevevn of his homers have come as a left handed batter. After a sac fly tied the game in the fourth, Justin Christian drilled a single to centerfield to bring home Ray Olmedo to give Durham a 2-1 advantage.

Curt Casali went 2-3 with a double, single and walk in his second Triple-A game. Casali has four hits in his first six at bats.

The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM ET with Enny Romero (2-4, 4.50) starting against Ryan Tutusko (1-4, 2.20).
