LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 7, 2014) - Jake Sanchez struck out eight batters over 6.0 strong innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators rolled to a 10-2 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park on Wednesday night. Kannapolis (17-15) won its third straight game as Sanchez improved to 4-0 on the season, including 2-0 as a starter.
The Kannapolis offense provided plenty of support, including a 5-run fourth inning highlighted by third baseman Trey Michalczewski's bases-clearing double. Michalczewski, the seventh round pick by the White Sox in the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft finished with a career-high 4 RBI, including an run-scoring groundout in the third inning while first baseman Danny Hayes went 3-for-4 with first inning solo home run (2).
Sanchez kept the BlueClaws off the scoreboard over the first four innings, allowing Kannapolis to build an 8-0 lead before finally surrendering a run. He finished the night allowing a run on five hits and no walks over 6.0 innings, lowing his ERA to 1.27, fourth-best in the South Atlantic League. The White Sox signed Sanchez out of the independent Frontier League in June of 2013 and assigned him to Advanced Rookie Great Falls where he was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year last season.
Drew Anderson (1-2) suffered the loss for Lakewood, allowing eight runs (five earned) on seven hits over just 3 and 2/3 innings. The BlueClaws defense made four errors on the night, including two by third baseman Mitch Walding.
The Intimidators can clinch a series win with a victory on Thursday as former Charlotte 49ers standout Tyler Barnette takes the rubber for his second start of the season. First pitch at FirstEnergy Park is at 6:35 p.m. Kannapolis is on a 7-day road trip to Lakewood and Hagerstown before returning home to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Wednesday, May 14.
