Scranton, PA --- Zelous Wheeler singled home the tie-breaking run in the sixth inning to send Scranton by Durham 3-2 at PNC Field on Friday night.
After a home run by former Bull Russ Canzler tied the game earlier in the inning, Merrill Kelly (L, 4-1) allowed a hard single to left field with one out to score Jose Pirela. Scranton's bullpen finished up with three scoreless innings to win their sixth straight game.
Durham (20-16) fell into a first place tie with Gwinnett, which won its fourth straight on Friday night.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the first on a grounder by Jerry Sands to score Hak-Ju Lee from third. After the Rail Riders (19-15) tied the game in the fifth, Kevin Kiermaier scored on a passed ball in the top of the sixth to return the lead to the Bulls 2-1.
Kelly, who suffered his first loss in eight outings, walked a season-high five batters in 5 1/3 innings, permitting three runs on nine hits.
Kiermaier went 2-4 with a pair of stolen bases for the Bulls. Curt Casali was 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt, and has now hit safely in his first four Triple-A games.
The Bulls are 0-5 on their current eight-game road trip, and meet the Rail Riders again Saturday night with Matt Andriese (1-3, 5.55) opposing Shane Greene (0-0, 4.66) at 7:05 PM ET.
