Seattle Mariners number two prospect, D.J. Peterson, has been named California League Player of the Week for the week May 26 - June 1, 2014.
During that week, Peterson's average climbed from .275 to .305. Peterson had at least one hit per every game during the week and five out of the seven games were multi-hit days. In 30 at bats, Peterson hit 14 times and two of those hits were homeruns.
Peterson is the third Maverick from the 2014 regime to earn Player of the Week honors. Patrick Kivlehan (now in AA Jackson) and Jordy Lara were back-to-back Players of the Week earlier in the season.
The Mavericks currently sit four games behind the Lancaster JetHawks in the California League South Division. The Mavericks will wrap up a four game series with Bakersfield today and then will travel north to play San Jose and Stockton. They return on June 11 for a four game series with Lake Elsinore who is one game ahead of the Mavericks in the race for a playoff spot--earned by the team winning the division for the first half.
