Marin Named Carolina League "Player of the Week"

Miami Native Becomes Second Player to Earn Weekly Honor in 2014
June 2, 2014

FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys are pleased to announce that shortstop Adrian Marin has been named the Carolina League "Player of the Week" for the week of May 26-June 2. It is the first time that the Miami native has won a player of the week honor in his professional career, while Marin becomes the second Keys player in 2014 to earn a weekly award. Parker Bridwell was named the Carolina League pitcher of the week on May 19 after coming two outs short of a no-hitter against Potomac on May 13.

Marin, 20, enjoyed a monster week at the plate. Over six games, he hit .429 (9-for-21) with one home run, seven doubles, 11 RBIs and one run scored. The 11 RBIs paced all of Advanced-A, while he more than doubled his total over the week-long stretch. He drove in at least one run in five of the six games, while he set a new career-high with four RBIs on Friday night against Wilmington. Ending the week with three multi-hit efforts, Marin also saw his batting average jump from .233 to .257, the second-highest it has been all year.

Rated the No. 12 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles system according to Baseball America, as well as the organization's "best defensive infielder", Marin spent all of 2013 at Low-A Delmarva. In 108 games with the Shorebirds, the Floridian hit .265 with four home runs and 48 RBIs. Marin was selected by Baltimore in the third round out of Gulliver Prep (FL) in 2012.

The Frederick Keys try to complete a four-game sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Monday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Righty Branden Kline (3-1, 3.41) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed by Blue Crew right-hander Glenn Sparkman (2-1, 1.67). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
