TACOMA, Wash. -- Xavier Avery collected three hits, including a first-inning leadoff home run, as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 4-2 in front of 6,324 fans at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.
The outfielder gave the Rainiers a quick 1-0 lead after belting his second homer of the season in the game's first frame. Avery went on to single in the third and fifth innings and ended the night 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Isotopes utilized a pair of homers to pull ahead 2-1 in the fourth. Outfielder Joc Pederson tied the score at one after leading off the inning with his 16th home run of the season. Former Rainiers third baseman Alex Liddi put the 'Topes on top when he took a solo shot deep one out later.
Albuquerque's lead stretched to 4-1 in the top of the seventh before Tacoma tallied its final run of the night in the bottom of the inning. Catcher Jesus Sucre hit the fourth triple of his professional career and his first since August 8, 2010 to drive in outfielder Jabari Blash in the seventh.
Tacoma recorded a total of nine hits in the contest. Along with Avery's three-hit night, Sucre went 2-for-4 and outfielder Xavier Nady posted a 2-for-5 effort.
Starter Jordan Pries (3-5) surrendered three runs on six hits in 6.2 innings and was dealt the loss. The right-hander struck out seven and issued one walk in his tenth turn in the Rainiers rotation.
The Rainiers (25-36) look to capture a series win in the final installment of a five-game series against Albuquerque (29-33) on Sunday, June 8. Left-hander James Gillheeney (1-5, 6.68) is slated to start for Tacoma in the finale against Isotopes right-hander Jeff Bennett (2-1, 3.65). First pitch is slated for 1:35 p.m.
