Shankin named CAL League Player of the Week

June 9, 2014

The High Desert Mavericks struggled during the week of June 2-8, 2014. The pitching staff allowed 48 runs and the team lost six of the seven games. The only win during that week was awarded to High Desert Mavericks' pitcher Brett Shankin, who was nearly flawless.

Shankin is the California League Player of the Week for the week of June 2-8, 2014. In two games he threw 7 innings and allowed only 1 hit. Zero runs scored while he was on the mound and he managed to strikeout 10.

Shankin, the Michigan native, is the second Mavericks' pitcher this year to earn this award. Mavericks' pitcher Tyler Pike was honored the previous week for his outing in the Mavericks' no-hitter. The Mavericks are out of the race for the first-half playoff spot, but will finish a series in Stockton before returning home Wednesday for a four-game series against Lake Elsinore to finish the first half.
