Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (34-36) lost to the Asheville Tourists (43-28) in the second game of the series, on Friday night, at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The final score was 4-3.
Asheville was first on the board with one run scored, on a ground out, in the first inning. The Tourists scored again in the fourth inning. With two outs and a runner on third, Correlle Prime singled to third base.
Augusta finally scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, catcher Ty Ross, doubled to left field. A wild pitch by Tourists starting pitcher, Antonio Senzatela, advanced Ross to third. A single to center field by Rando Moreno allowed Ross to plate the run.
The GreenJackets tied the game in the fifth inning at two. Jeremy Sy began the inning with a triple. Tyler Horan then hit a sacrifice fly ball which allowed Jeremy Sy score.
Both teams scored their final runs in the sixth inning. With two outs, Ramiel Tapia singled to left field. A double to left-center field by Ryan McMahon allowed Tapia to score the first of two runs for the Tourists. The second run came from a fielding error. The GreenJackets recorded one run in the sixth. With two outs and Moreno on third, Chris Lofton doubled to left-center field.
Despite the loss, two GreenJackets performed well. Starting pitcher Keury Mella (3-3) had a career high ten strikeouts. He gave up four hits, four runs, and only walked one batter. Ty Ross also performed well for the team. For the second time this season, Ross went 3-for-4 at bat. He plated one of the three runs for the GreenJackets and now has a batting average of .233.
The GreenJackets continue their series against the Tourists on Saturday, June 21. It's News 12 Time to Care Night at the ballpark. The first 500 fans in the stadium will receive a T-shirt courtesy of News 12. It's also Family Fun Night presented by American Family Insurance. There is also a Post-Game Fireworks Show.
