Adelanto, CA - Rancho's six-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday night as they fell to the High Desert Mavericks 4-2 at Heritage Field. It was the first loss of the Second Half for Rancho Cucamonga.
One night after scoring 15 runs on 19 hits, Rancho Cucamonga (5-1, 37-39) was held to just two runs on four hits on Tuesday. High Desert's Scott DeCecco (3-7, 6.50) gave up just three hits over seven innings to earn the win for the Mavericks.
High Desert (4-2, 38-38) took the early lead with a pair of solo home runs. In the second inning, Jordy Lara went deep and Burt Reynolds followed with a home run in the third inning. Both came against Jharel Cotton (2-5, 6.22), who allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings.
The Quakes mustered just two hits up until the sixth inning. With the bases empty and two outs, Corey Seager blasted an opposite-field home run off the scoreboard in left-center field. The home run was his 14th of the year, and he added a double in the first inning.
Rancho added a run in the eighth inning. Brandon Dixon led off the frame with a double, and he came around to score on an error later in the inning.
Down 4-2 in the ninth inning, the Quakes were able to bring the tying run to the plate. With two outs, Aaron Miller drew a walk that put him aboard with Chris Jacobs coming up. Jacobs, who already has three home runs in the Second Half, struck out looking against Matt Brazis to end the ballgame.
The series concludes on Wednesday night at Heritage Field. Tom Windle (6-4, 3.79) gets the start in the rubber game for Rancho against High Desert's Dylan Unsworth (5-6, 6.46). First pitch is at 7:05 pm and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports AM 1350 starting with the LoanMart Pregame Report at 6:50 pm.
