06/30/2014 2:17 PM ET

Lancaster, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm earned a series split with the Lancaster JetHawks Sunday, defeating the hometown 'Hawks 8-5 in come from behind fashion.

Lake Elsinore got the scoring started in the third. Alberth Martinez lined his twentieth double of the season to left and advanced to third on a Luis Domoromo single. Mid-season All-Star Diego Goris scored Martinez with a two-bagger of his own, and Domoromo would cross on a ground out in the next at-bat to put the Storm up 2-0.

Despite the early advantage, Storm starter Bryan Rodriguez was tagged for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Lancaster took the lead with three consecutive singles, a walk and a double. The JetHawks would add another in the fourth to go up 5-2.

Down by three to begin the fifth, The Eyes began their comeback in the top of the inning. Martinez walked to begin the frame and went first to third on Domoromo's third single of the game. Goris collected his second RBI with a sacrifice fly that allowed Martinez to score, and the deficit was cut to two.

After a scoreless sixth, Lake Elsinore tied the game in the top of the seventh. Benji Gonzalez started the inning with his first home run of the year, a no-doubter over the right field wall that marked his first dinger with the San Diego Padres organization after coming over in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates in May. Martinez singled in the next at-bat, but a ground ball off the bat of Domoromo eliminated the lead runner to put a man on first with one out. A wild pitch allowed Domoromo to advance 90 feet, and a Goris groundout sent the runner to third. Dane Phillips notched his only hit of the game in the subsequent plate appearance, singling to left after an extended at-bat to tie the game at five.

The Storm bullpen impressed for a second consecutive game. Matthew Shepherd (W, 5-1), Brandon Alger and Tyron Guerrero (S, 3) allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings in relief of the starter Rodriguez.

Lake Elsinore took the lead for good in the eighth. Corey Adamson continued his hot hitting with a lead-off double and later scored on Gonzalez's sixteenth double of 2014.

Leading 6-5, the Storm added two insurance runs in the ninth courtesy of a two-out, two-run home run from Gabriel Quintana, his ninth of the season.

Guerrero walked the lead-off man in the ninth but retired the next three hitters to secure the 8-5 victory.

With the win, the Storm (46-35) split their four-game series with the JetHawks (48-33) and improve to 4-4 in eight games at The Hangar this season.

Domoromo led the offense with four singles, and three other starters recorded multi-hit efforts. Four separate Storm had two RBI each.

After an off day on Monday, Lake Elsinore returns to The Diamond for a three-game series with the Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday, July 1. The Storm have yet to designate a starter, but Tyler DeLoach (6-3, 3.79 ERA) will get the ball for the 66ers. First pitch is slated for 6:05pm.
