Oberste Catches a Severe Case of the Mondays

Savannah, Ga.- The Savannah Sand Gnats finished off a four-game sweep of the Rome Braves with an 8-1 win at Historic Grayson Stadium Monday night. The Gnats (8-4/52-26) outscored Rome (2-10/26-56) 31-18 in the four game set.  

DH Matt Oberste had his second straight big game for the Gnats. After going 4-for-4 with six RBI and his first home run of the year on Sunday, Oberste followed up with a 3-for-3 game Monday with his second home run of the year. 

Centerfielder Champ Stuart and first baseman Dominic Smith both reached base three times. Stuart singled twice and walked while Smith singled twice and doubled into the left field corner. 

Meanwhile, on the hill, Dario Alvarez continued his strong 2014, by shutting out Rome for five innings. He earned his fifth win, and lowered his ERA to 0.96 with 78 strikeouts against 12 walks.  

The Gnats scored in the first, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings to improve to 14-2 against Rome this year. 

The Gnats begin a three-game series with Charleston on Tuesday night when they send RHP Robert Gsellman (6-3, 2.49) to the mound against LHP Ian Clarkin (3-3, 3.08).
