High Desert Mavericks' D.J. Peterson named CAL League Player of the Month

July 2, 2014

When the Mariners selected D.J. Peterson as their first selection of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft, they expected great things.

On June 23, 2014 Peterson had his final at bat in Advanced-A ball. It was a 2-run homerun against the Quakes that immediately prompted his removal from the game. At 11:02 p.m. following the game Peterson tweeted:

"Thank you to all the high desert fans it has been a honor. Excited to be joining Jackson tomorrow!! #blessed"

The Mariners weren't the only ones to notice Peterson's stellar efforts in June. Peterson has been named the 2014 California League Player of the Month for June. In 18 starts for the High Desert Mavericks in June, Peterson batted .392 going 29-for-74 with 9 doubles, 8 homeruns, and 33 RBIs.

Twice during June, Peterson was named California League Player of the Week. Within 24 hours of Peterson's promotion to AA Jackson, rosters for the 2014 Futures Game were released-Peterson made the cut.

Peterson has started in 5 games in Jackson and is currently batting .250.
