Gnats Win Sixth Straight

July 2, 2014

Savannah, Ga.- The Savannah Sand Gnats extended their winning streak to six straight games with a 7-4 win over the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Gnats (10-4/54-26) snapped a 4-4 tie with a run in the sixth inning. DH Jon Leroux doubled and scored on second baseman Jorge Rivero's RBI groundout. Savannah added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to establish the final margin.

Twice in the first half of the game, the Gnats took two-run leads only to watch the Dogs (3-11/36-48) tie it up both times.

In the fifth, centerfielder Champ Stuart laced his second homerun of the year, a two-run shot to leftfield. He finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, a stolen base, two runs scored and two RBI from the no. 2 hole.

Gnats' starter and Savannah native John Michael Gant fought his way through seven innings, tying a career-high with 10 strikeouts to earn his eighth win of 2014 with a 2.79 ERA.

The Gnats look to complete a sweep of the RiverDogs and a perfect seven-game homestand Thursday night when they hand the ball to LHP Alex Panteliodis (1-1, 4.00), who will be opposed by LHP Caleb Smith (4-6, 3.36).

The Gnats will host a spectacular post-game fireworks show as part of an Early Pre-Independence Day Celebration at Historic Grayson Stadium.

Fans can toast to America's birthday with Thirsty Thursday half-priced beer and soda specials sponsored by Budweiser, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Connect Savannah, E93, and I-95 FM.
