Cutters top Doubledays in final Williamsport game
Tromp, Campbell homers prevent three-game winning streak
07/06/2014 6:05 PM ET

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Jiandido Tromp and Derek Campbell went deep in the third and sixth innings, respectively, and despite a fabulous relief outing from Deion Williams, the Crosscutters earned a split with a 4-1 win in the final game of a four-game set in Williamsport.

With the Cutters up 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Cutters rightfielder Cord Sandberg lined a single against Doubledays starter Austen Williams (0-1), making his New York-Penn League debut. Tromp stepped in and sent a 1-1 pitch soaring over the left-centerfield wall to give Williamsport a 3-0 lead.

Later, Deion Williams allowed a solo shot to Campbell with one out in the sixth to give the Cutters some insurance at 4-1. It was the only real blemish on an otherwise spectacular outing for Deion; he finished with four-and-a-third innings pitched, two hits and just the one run allowed, with no walks and six striekouts. The six Ks put him at 19 for the year, one ahead of Reynaldo Lopez for the team lead.

Auburn got its lone run in the top of the fourth. Osvaldo Abreu reached on a fielding error by shortstop Emmanuel Marrero, and took third on an Austin Davidson single. Jose Marmolejos proceeded to ground into a double play, but Abreu came in to score from third.

Williamsport's first run was a bit less powerful than a homer. With two out and no one on in the first, Aaron Brown lined a single to get the Cutters in business. Rhys Hoskins followed by popping a ball sky high to right-center. Second baseman Bryan Mejia and centerfielder Clay Williamson were unclear on who would make the catch, and the two players tripped over each other, allowing the ball to fall in and Brown to score all the way from first. Both players stayed in the game.

The Doubledays return home on Monday night to face the first-place State College Spikes at Falcon Park. RHP Matt Derosier (0-1, 8.49) makes his first start of the season against RHP Dewin Perez (1-1, 4.96). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, with the gates opening at 6.
