Royals OF Nori Aoki to rehab this week at Hammons Field

Springfield, MO - As the Springfield Cardinals begin a four-game home series against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals tonight, Kansas City Royals OF Nori Aoki is expected to continue his Rehab Assignment with the Naturals throughout the series at Hammons Field.

Aoki, 32, is in his first season with the Royals and third in Major League Baseball, after putting together a stellar career in the Nippon Professional Baseball League in Japan. This season, he has suited up in 68 games for Kansas City, compiling a .263 average with 12 doubles, two triples and 14 RBIs.

The Hyuga City, Japan native made his Major League debut with the Milwaukee Brewers on April 6, 2012. Through his two seasons and 306 games as a Brewer, he logged 321 hits with 18 home runs, 57 doubles, seven triples and 87 RBIs, while hitting at least .286 both years.

Prior to coming to the United States, Aoki put together a career average of .329 with 1,284 hits, 84 home runs, 385 RBIs and 164 stolen bases through six seasons with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. He is one of only four players to register 200 or more hits in a single season in Japanese Professional Baseball. Aoki also played for Japan in the World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009.

The Cardinals kick off a four-game homestand tonight against Royals OF Nori Aoki and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. First Pitch tonight is 7:10pm, with gates opening at 6:10pm.
