Cutters Five Game Winning Streak Snapped

July 11, 2014

The Vermont Lake Monsters used a 7-run second inning to win the finale of the 3-game series with the Crosscutters Friday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Bowman Field 14-2.

Cutters starting pitcher Chris Oliver (0-1) making his second start did not survive the second inning going just five outs on the night allowing seven runs on four hits, three walks while striking out one in his first loss.

Preston Packrall would also be roughed up by Vermont hitters over five outs of work allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks.

Manny Martinez entered the game with one out in the fourth inning and gave up a single to Brett Vertigan. From that point until the end of the game the Cutters bullpen combined for 5.2 innings of no-hit relief but the damage had already been done.

RP Manny Martinez (1.2 innings), Keivi Rojas, Christopher O'Hare and Mark Meadors all worked scoreless innings.

RP Ricky Bielski allowed a run in the sixth inning on a pair of walks, a balk and two hit batters.

Derek Campbell had his 10-game hitting streak snapped by going 0 for 4.

The Cutters offense was held to just five hits on the night. The only extra base hit and RBI on the night belonged to Robinson Torres who doubled home Garcia and Hernandez in the fourth inning. It was the only time the Cutters scored on the night and had more than one base runner on in an inning.

The Crosscutters loss makes their record 16-12 and snaps a 5-game winning streak.
