Dogs Make Mama Proud with 4-1 Win on Saturday Night
Savannah, Ga.- On Forrest Gump night at Historic Grayson Stadium, while Forrest waited for his number nine bus, the Gnats were waiting for a hit with runners in scoring position. Savannah fell to the Charleston RiverDogs 4-1, while going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The Gnats left at least one runner aboard in each of the game's final six innings.
The Dogs (9-14/42-51) got the early jump with two runs in the first inning against Savannah starter Robert Gsellman. First baseman Mike Ford drove home the first run with a double down the rightfield line and scored on an error for the second. Charleston added a third run, and the second unearned run against Gsellman, in the third. The Gnats committed four errors in the game.
Charleston finished off their scoring with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
The Gnats (16-7/60-29) scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning. Centerfielder Champ Stuart brought home Yeixon Ruiz with a smash to third base.
DH Matt Oberste extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double in the second inning.
The Gnats and Dogs will play the rubber-game of their series Sunday at 2:05 when the Gnats send RHP John Michael Gant(9-4, 2.64) to the mound against LHP Caleb Smith (4-7, 3.36).
Kids 12 and under can receive a free hot dog, soda, and chips as a part of Kia Country Kids Eat Free. Fans are also encouraged to bring their dogs for TailSpin Bark in the Park. Fans with dogs should also bring proof of up-to-date vaccinations.
