Giants Begin Homestand Tonight Against Rancho Cucamonga
The San Jose Giants begin a seven-game homestand this evening with the first of three straight contests against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at Municipal Stadium. Pat Young (7-3, 5.47) is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose tonight. After the current series versus the Quakes, San Jose hosts the Lake Elsinore Storm in a four-game set beginning on Saturday.

Last Series
The Giants split a four-game set against the host Stockton Ports in their most recent series. San Jose earned a 2-1, 12-inning victory in the series opener on Friday before the Ports bounced back with a 10-6 win on Saturday. The Giants then posted a 4-1 victory on Sunday behind a 13-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Matt Lujan. Stockton earned the split with an 11-1 rout of San Jose on Monday evening. The Giants allowed a total of 21 runs on 35 hits in their two losses compared to a combined two runs and eight hits surrendered in their two wins.

Winning Ways
San Jose has posted a 12-5 record in their last 17 games dating back to June 27. All five losses during the stretch have come against Stockton (3-5 vs. the Ports, 9-0 vs. the rest of the league). The Giants rattled off a season-high six consecutive victories from June 27-July 3 while also claiming four straight games from July 8-11. San Jose hasn't lost more than two games in a row since dropping four straight from June 20-23. The Giants are 14-11 in the second half and in second place in the North Division - four games behind Stockton (18-7) for the top spot.

Versus The South
The series marks San Jose's first games against a South Division opponent since sweeping a three-game set against the High Desert Mavericks from June 3-5. The Giants have played their last 33 games against North Division clubs. San Jose is 13-10 overall versus the South Division this year. The Giants' only previous meeting against Rancho Cucamonga came during the opening series of the year when San Jose won three out of four games at LoanMart Field (April 3-6).

Above .500
A victory in tonight's contest would improve the Giants (48-47) to a season-high tying two games over .500. San Jose moved over .500 for the first time since the opening week of the season six days ago.

July Surge
The Giants are batting .294 as a team in July - third in the California League and tops among North Division clubs. San Jose is averaging 5.1 runs per game this month. The Giants' 9-5 record in July is tied for the second best mark in the league (Stockton 10-4).

Blair's Hot Streak
Over his last 13 games, outfielder Elliott Blair is batting .451 (23-for-51) with five doubles, one home run and nine RBI's. He's raised his season batting average from .272 to .303 during the stretch. Blair enjoyed a season-high 10-game hitting streak from July 2-11. He went 8-for-16 (.500) with three doubles and a home run during the last series against Stockton.

At Muni
The Giants have won their last three home games to move above .500 at Municipal Stadium for the season (25-24). San Jose is batting .259 as a team at home (4.2 runs per game) compared to .271 on the road (4.8 runs per game).

Bednar Bolsters Offense
In 12 games since joining the club from Augusta (A), infielder Brandon Bednar is batting .340 (17-for-50) with three doubles, a home run and five RBI's. Bednar has made starts at third base (four games), shortstop (three games) and first base (three games) with San Jose. Bednar was added to the Giants roster on July 1. The former seventh round draft pick was leading Augusta with a .275 batting average at the time of his promotion.

Bullpen Standouts
Recent bullpen standouts for the Giants include: Mason McVay (0.91 ERA - 4 ER/39.2 IP - in 25 appearances since the beginning of May), Tyler Mizenko (16 straight scoreless outings - 17 IP), Stephen Johnson (1.03 ERA - 3 ER/26.1 IP - in his last 19 games) and Bryce Bandilla (1.02 ERA - 2 ER/17.2 IP - in 19 games since joining team).

Opponent Notes: Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are in first place in the second half South Division at 18-7. The Quakes began the half winning 18 out of 20 before dropping their last five games. Rancho Cucamonga is eighth in the league in batting average (.261) and third in ERA (4.44).
