Cutters swept in Brooklyn

July 21, 2014

The Crosscutters were swept out of MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York on Monday afternoon as they completed their 6-game road trip by dropping a 5-2 decision. It was the same story as earlier games in the trip with an early 2-0 lead disappearing.

Drew Stankiewicz led off the game with a double up the alley in right field and was bunted to third by Jiandido Tromp followed by an RBI groundout to first base by Aaron Brown putting the Cutters in front 1-0.

Matt Shortall followed with a 2-out single and stole second base. Wilmer Oberto began his two hit day with an RBI single to center making it 2-0 Cutters. That was the last time the Cutters scored in the game as they managed just four hits the rest of the way while striking out ten times.

Cutters SP David Whitehead surrendered five runs on eleven hits over five innings of work suffering his third loss of the season.

Relievers Jesen Therrien and Bryan Sova combined for three innings of scoreless baseball.

The Cutters have dropped three straight games and are one game under .500 at 18-19, returning home for a 5-game home stand against Pinckney Division opponents Batavia, who the Crosscutters have not faced yet this year and Mahoning Valley, who the Cutters beat twice earlier this month on the road.

Williamsport returns to Susquehanna Bank Park on Tuesday, July 22 to face the Batavia Muckdogs on Penn College Pack the Park Night.

On Wednesday July 23 come out to Susquehanna Bank Park for Cord Sandberg Photo Giveaway night, plus Social Media Night and Group Reading Program Night #2.
