Alumnus of the Week: Elliott Blair

The fifth edition of the Volcanoes Alumnus of the Week presented by Salem-Keizer McDonald's highlights another San Jose Giants outfielder, Elliott Blair.

Blair has been on an absolute tear of late in San Jose. In his last ten games, Blair has six multi-hit games, three of which are three-hit games, and owns a .472 batting average.

Yesterday, July 22, Blair went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI. He has also been drawing walks, as his on base percentage over his last ten games is an absurd .535.

Blair joined Salem-Keizer for a short 11-game stint in 2013. At 25 years old, Blair was almost four years older than the league average.

During his short stay with the Volcanoes, Blair's numbers did not jump off the page. He was unable to knock in a single run and only managed two extra base hits, both of which were doubles. However, despite hitting just .237, Blair put together an impressive .396 on base percentage.

Conversely, Blair is putting together a very noteworthy campaign this year. He has played in 87 games with the San Jose Giants and is batting a lofty .317. He has 32 extra base hits including five homeruns and five triples. Blair also has the ability to steal bases, having already swiped eight on the season.

At 26 years old, it is unlikely that Blair will be left in the minors much longer, which means the next year or so is make-or-break for the Volcanoes alumnus. If he can continue his hot season, and exceptionally hot week, we will see him shoot up in the Giants system.
