Comeback Win a Tough Pill for B-Mets to Swallow

July 24, 2014

Gary Sanchez's two-run single in the seventh inning gave the Thunder a come-from-behind victory, 6-5, over the Binghamton Mets on Thursday night. In front 6,597 fans, the Thunder improved to 24-28 at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Entering the decisive inning, the Thunder trailed 5-3 when Mason Williams started the inning with a base hit to center. B-Mets left-hander Jack Lethersich came back to retire the next two hitters before Ali Castillo reached on an infield single and Ben Gamel reached on another infield single to score Williams and bring the Thunder within one.

After a walk to Jake Cave to load the bases, Sanchez singled to right field to drive in his second and third runs of the game to grab the 6-5 lead.

Francisco Rondon pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn his first victory of the season.

The Thunder took an early 1-0 lead when Sanchez drove in Jake Cave with a base hit to center in support of Luis Severino.

Severino went four innings in his debut at ARM & HAMMER Park and struck out seven batters. The 20-year-old kept the B-Mets off the board in the first three innings until Jayce Boyd tied the game with an RBI groundout and Xorge Carillo took the lead with a base hit to center field in the fourth inning. Severino threw 79 pitches, 49 strikes.

Tyler Austin hit his sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning. Austin's shot to center field came off B-Mets starter Tyler Pill. Pill took a no-decision despite striking out nine in six innings.
