BayBears quiet Generals bats Saturday, end win streak

Jackson dropped the opener at Mobile, 4-1 at Hank Aaron Stadium
July 26, 2014

MOBILE, ALA. (JULY 26, 2014) - Mobile's Aaron Blair (2-0, 0.66) picked up his second win in his second Double-A start as he stymied one of the hottest lineups in the Southern League. Blair struck out seven Generals (16-19, 47-57) over 7.0 innings as the Mobile BayBears (21-13/63-40) won game one of the series Saturday in Mobile, 4-1.

Leon Landry's (0x4) 16-game hitting streak came to an end after going 0-for-4 on the evening as Jackson picked up just four hits Saturday. They did spread those hits around as Pat Kivlehan (1x3), Dan Paolini (1x4), Dario Pizzano (1x3) and Patrick Brady (1x3, R, HR, RBI) each had one hit each. The Generals are also now 2-12 following a bus ride.

Saturday did not feature Jackson scoring runs in the first two innings, however their opponents did. Tom Belza and Taylor Harbin hit back-to-back singles to begin the bottom of the first for Mobile and Belza scored the game's first run on a double from Zach Borenstein. John Griffin followed with a ground out that plated Harbin and the BayBears were quickly on top 2-0.

Two innings later, Patrick Brady hammered his second Generals home run of the year over the left field wall to lead off the third. The solo shot was the only extra-base hit of the night for Jackson and trimmed the Mobile lead to 2-1.

The BayBears once again got back a two-run lead as Evan Marzilli tripled to begin the bottom of the fourth. Gerson Montilla followed with an RBI base hit that scored Marzilli and the lead was 3-1.

Mobile added to the lead once again in the seventh as Borenstein greeted the recently reinstated from the DL Stephen Shackleford rather rudely with his second long ball of the season. The lead ballooned to 4-1 on the solo homer.

Jackson starter Matt Anderson (3-5, 5.16) came out after the first inning with back tightness, but he allowed two runs on three hits in his 1.0 inning of work and suffered the loss. The Generals used four pitchers out of their bullpen and they combined for 7.0 innings of work and gave up just two runs and scattered 10 hits.

Blair earned his second win after being called up to Mobile as he allowed only one run on four hits and struck out seven in 7.0 innings of work. Kaleb Fleck picked up his 12th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Jackson third baseman D.J. Peterson (0x1) also left the game after the first inning with a wrist contusion.

The Generals will attempt to even the series in game two with the BayBears Sunday at Hank Aaron Stadium. Jackson will send lefty Tyler Olson (5-5, 4.50) the mound as Mike Lee (6-5, 4.56) will be on the bump for Mobile. The game will begin at 5:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
