MONTGOMERY, AL - After Austin Barnes gave the Suns an early lead with a first inning homer, the Jacksonville Suns (22-14, 58-48) held on to shut out the Montgomery Biscuits (19-17, 54-52) by a 1-0 final on Saturday night from Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium.
Hear manager Andy Barkett's postgame comments here:
Jose Urena (W, 9-7) was nothing short of brilliant in his Saturday night outing, winning his third consecutive start as he tossed seven shutout innings, only allowing three hits and one walk while setting a new season-high with eight strikeouts.
Greg Nappo (H, 8) struck out the side in a scoreless bottom of the eighth, giving up a lone hit in his outing.
Nick Wittgren (SV, 15) picked up his 15th save of the season by tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth inning, striking out one batter along the way.
Michael Colla (L, 6-10) took the tough-luck loss for Montgomery, only allowing a single run (earned) on four hits in 6.1 innings of work while walking two batters and striking out four Suns.
The Suns didn't wait long to hop on the scoreboard on Saturday night, as Austin Barnes drilled a one-out home run to left field to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning; a lead that would stand all the way through the completion of the ballgame.
