07/28/2014 1:12 AM ET

Modesto, CA. - Five errors led to four unearned runs in the Nuts' 9-4 loss to the 66ers on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.

In the fifth inning, the Nuts (10-26; 33-73) committed five errors behind starter Chris Carpenter (L, 2-6). In the inning, Carpenter fielded a grounder in front of the mound and sent the throw down the line with one away to put a runner on second for the 66ers (16-20; 41-65). After a groundout for the second out of the inning, Rosell Herrera threw the ball away from shortstop after fielding a soft grounder to extend the inning. Exicardo Cayones came up with a two-out single next and with Cal Towey going first to third, David Dahl's throw from center field to third hit Towey and allowed Cayones to move to second. Riley Good followed and hit a grounder to second that Pat Valaika had kick off his glove. With runners at first and third, Good swiped second and Alex San Juan's throw went into center field to allow Cayones to touch home.

In all, the 66ers scored four unearned runs on five errors in the inning. Carpenter worked 4.2 frames while giving up five hits and seven runs, only three of which were earned. The 66ers had struck first when Dennis Raben racked a three-run triple in the third inning.

Dan Tobik (W, 2-6) tossed five innings and allowed three runs, walked three and struck out three.

In the eighth inning, both Nuts catcher Alex San Juan and hitting coach Jon Stone were ejected from the ballgame by the home plate umpire. After getting hit by a ball in the dirt, the home plate umpire and San Juan began arguing before San Juan was ejected. Stone continued the argument and was given the hook himself.

On the offensive side, the Nuts received a RBI triple from Mike Tauchman. Matt Wessinger and Derek Jones each went deep with solo home runs.

The Nuts split the four-game set against the 66ers and will welcome the San Jose Giants to town on Monday night. Righty Devin Burke will be on the mound for the Nuts.
