Duo Deals in 5-1 Win in Akron
Davies and Hensley Shut Down Akron Attack in Win

 (Bert Hindman)

Starter Zach Davies held off Akron in six innings of work and reliever Steven Hensley did the rest as the Baysox moved within 2.5 games of Akron with a 5-1 win Tuesday evening.

Davies worked well in the few times he was in trouble in the game. The key inning was the fourth. Tied at 1-apiece, 1B Adam Abraham doubled to right field to start the inning. Next up was CF Jordan Smith and he doubled on a ball to the wall in right-center. Abraham misread the deep fly and went back to tag at third as if the ball would be caught. He could only advance to third base.

Davies then went to work. He got a popout in the infield, a strikeout and a groundout to get out of the jam unscathed.

Bowie grabbed the lead in the sixth inning. 1B Buck Britton lined a leadoff double to right field. He got third base on a groundout to the right side by DH KD Kang and then scored on a sac fly by 2B David Adams. The Baysox then opened the game up with a three-run seventh inning rally.

Hensley came on and worked three innings, allowing just a hit and a walk for his fifth save of the year. He now has a sub-2 ERA after the game at 1.93.

Bowie looks for the sweep Wednesday, July 30th at 12:05 p.m. with LHP Tim Berry getting the starting nod. Coverage starts 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home with a Tuesday Fireworks Show on the annual Navy Night at Prince George's Stadium, August 5th at 6:35 p.m. against the Portland Sea Dogs. Get your tickets at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
